Literally, it means “tamarind”, the imli or Tamarindus Indica, a very sour dark fruit with black seeds. Describing recent activities of youths involved in Shahabagh movement and mass killing by the government as an attack on Islam by the atheists and their masters, country’s highly respected Islami thinker Allama Shah Ahmed Safi on Saturday made a clarion call to all Muslim to be united for protecting Islam. Chairman of Bangladesh Kaomi Madrasha Education Board, Amir of Hefajate Islam, and director general of Darul Ulum Hathajari, Allama Safi made this call in a written speech at Ulema Mashayek conference held at Jameya Ahaliya Darul Ulum Hathajari in Chittagong. He said the Indo-US imperialist forces and their local agents, some bloggers who are so-called Muslims believe in atheism inspired by Taslima Nasrina and leftist political leaders, have launched fresh attack on Islam by spreading venom against some fundamental beliefs of Islam and carrying out false propaganda against Alem society. These atheist cliques are hurting believers by publishing anti-Islamic articles attacking Almighty Allah, Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (sm) and Islamic lifestyle on their blogs and other social media websites. He said these youths are promoting all activities contrary to Islamic values and life-style such as nudism, free-sex etc. which will ultimately lead the country towards destruction. They are labeling hijab and burka, a dress for women approved by Islam, as dress of ‘prostitutes of hotels’ and portraying respected alems and Islami personalities as terrorist, militant and other bad elements of the society. He said they are doing all these with full backing from the government. Accusing the prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led grand alliance government of patronizing these atheists, Allama Safi said the government is taking no steps against conspirators against Islam but killing Muslims who are building resistance against them. He alleged that the government was hatching conspiracy to uproot Islam from the soil of this country at the advice of the atheist leaders of left political parties. But he warned that any design against Islam would not only be foiled but the conspirators would be uprooted as well from this country if the conspiracy against Islam continued. He was critical of a section of some newspapers and electronic media for backing these atheists in the name of upholding and reviving the spirit of 1971 liberation war. He said it is a matter of surprise to see that a slain atheist blogger (Rajib) has been declared “Shaheed” in a country where more than 90 per cent people are Muslims. The internationally renowned and respected Islamic thinker Allama Safi has demanded of the government to immediately stop all activities against Islam, Almighty Allah and prophet Muhammad (sm) and called upon all Muslims to be united to resist enemy of Islam immediately.
